You’ve got to like a hovercraft!

A few pictures from a recent trip to Portsmouth in the UK where there is (as I understand) the only operating passenger hovercraft service in the world.

It takes passengers prom Southsea (Portsmouth) over to the Ryde on the Isle of Wight.

The Thirty Six: Film #20

This the second film from the recent UK trip (see the first here).  I took used a roll of Ilford FP4 this time; one of my favourite black and white films.

I only took the one film camera on this trip so again this is using the Voigtländer Prominent.

Took these around the beach are at Southsea Continue reading “The Thirty Six: Film #20”

The Thirty Six: Film #19

I went on a trip back home to the UK last month and took my Voigtländer Prominent with me.  I started the trim with a roll of Porta 400.

The first day my daughter and I went to Bletchley Park famous for the code breakers during WWII.  It’s an interesting place with lots to learn about. Continue reading “The Thirty Six: Film #19”

The Thirty Six: Film #15

Just got my Prominent back from a full CLA and slapped a roll of Kosmofoto in there as soon as I got it home.

Decided to underexpose this roll slightly as previously I have struggled with the extreme contrast of this film with blown out highlights – I think it prefers the northern Europe weather. Continue reading “The Thirty Six: Film #15”

The Thirty Six: Film #8

Another roll through my Voigtlander Prominent? Well not quite, this is a different Prominent; slightly older than the one used on this post. That one is away for a CLA so using the spare and prepping it for sale once the other comes back.

Film of choice this time was Kodak Portra 160

This was the first time using the 100mm Dynaron lens and I had mixed results which I don’t quite understand; some of the shots are perfectly focused others are just waaay off. I’m not sure whether it was operator error, an RF issue or if the lens wasn’t properly mounted – Continue reading “The Thirty Six: Film #8”

Not in Disneyland (#4 of The Thirty Six)

A few more photos from Film #4 of The Thirty Six (Ilford Delta 400 in Voigtländer Prominent).

These were shot in the waiting area outside of Disney’s Magic Kingdom and California Adventure parks.  I was waiting outside whilst my wife was inside doing a few quick errands (I know that sounds odd but when your wife is a Cast member and you live close by, these things happen).

Anyway, it was sunny (briefly) and I of course had my camera with me so I took the opportunity to get some shots. Continue reading “Not in Disneyland (#4 of The Thirty Six)”

Union Station (#4 of ‘The Thirty Six’)

Part of ‘The Thirty Six‘ project this year to try to shoot the 36 films I have in stock.

This is a part of film #4 which was Ilford Delta 400 35mm using my Voigtländer Prominent (w/Ultron 50mm) to shoot.

The Thirty-six: Films 1-3

I decided to spend much of 2019 shooting the stock of 36 various films I have in stock and hope to shoot all of them before the end of the year.

#1
The first film was already loaded in my Voigtländer Prominent (currently fitted with the Ultron 50mm 2.0 lens) and was the Fuji Pro 400 film.
I decided that as I was heading to the West of LA anyway for an evening get-together with Cameras and Beer, I would spend an hour or two at the Getty Center. They were running an exhibition of Sally Mann that I was keen to visit and also I love the architecture around the Getty.

Empty tables Continue reading “The Thirty-six: Films 1-3”

Can I still call myself a photographer?

Wow what crazy times these are –  times a few years ago I could never have foreseen.  It’s already November and I am not really sure what happened to October at all.

It’s all been happening for me here… Continue reading “Can I still call myself a photographer?”

July was Blue and August too

Another colour themed post

So for many reasons the July hunt for Blue was a bit of a wash out, actually wash is probably not the right word more the opposite as a primary issue was that it was so hot here getting out to shoot was uncomfortable.

As I was thinking of switching the colours slightly anyway (monocrome is not a colour) I decided to extend blue into August.

As it was I didn’t fair much better in August but here is my selection for your enjoyment.

Cameras: Voigtländer Prominent

I got this and another couple of cameras recently and, for the first time in a long time, I feel like “That’s it I am done buying, it’s not going to get any better than this.”

IMAG0003

I have had the Prominent on my list of desirable cameras for some time but prices have always been above what I was willing to pay.  Now I know that apparently, reasonably priced Prominents are like buses; you wait ages and two turn up at the same time. Cameras I need! – okay want

As I am unlikely to successfully take and prep many photos during the house move I was thinking what else I could post and due to some other blogs I have been reading my mind wandered to cameras I would love to own. Continue reading “Cameras I need! – okay want”

35mm Film Shootist

Hi I'm Martin Smith, a amateur photographer that likes to shoot solely film. I use black & white with the odd colour image thrown in and mainly use a Leica M4-2 with Summicron 35mm and 50mm lenses. I tend to shoot anything I like, objects, scenes, landscape or street life.
