Garden wildlife

while I was working in the garden this weekend, I was excited by this little fella who decided to visit and hunt for a while.

Flame Skimmer

I quickly ran in to get a camera; my Pen-F Digital in this case, which had the kit zoom lens attached.  It’s an auto-focus lens which allowed me to get close enough but I really struggled to get it to focus on the insect rather than the background.  Luckily, he hung around for a while and I was able to make several attempts.   Continue reading “Garden wildlife”

Tujunga Wash – blackened from the fires

The Tajunga Wash is an area close to where I live.  It’s combined with Oro Vista Park and Ebey Canyon with housing bordering.

I shared a picture of this area recently here.

I took a longer walk around this area last week and explored a little too.  Of course I had a camera with me; this time my Olympus Pen-F Digital.  We’ve been living here for six months and this was the first time I had really explored the wash and the park other than a couple of shorter dog walks.

Hummingbirds make me happy

I am very happy this morning.

A few weeks ago I purchased a hummingbird feeder, loaded it up with homemade syrup, put it out on my balcony and went off on my business trip to Canada.  When I got back it was empty.  I wasn’t sure if that was evaporation or whether something had actually eaten it all.

This morning I opened my door Continue reading “Hummingbirds make me happy”

35mm Film Shootist

Hi I'm Martin Smith, a amateur photographer that likes to shoot solely film. I use black & white with the odd colour image thrown in and mainly use a Leica M4-2 with Summicron 35mm and 50mm lenses. I tend to shoot anything I like, objects, scenes, landscape or street life.
