Mamiya 35 Executive

As well as being roll 22 and 24 of my 36, this is also a review on another new to me camera; the Mamiya 35 Executive.

I am not really sure why I bought this as I have several other 35mm rangefinders two of which are very good and my ‘favourite’ brand.  But Mamiya is also a trusted brand for me and when browsing recently to find a replacement for my soon-to-be-dead Mamiya C330, I stumbled across this.  It wasn’t cheap so I can’t use that to justify my purchase.

I didn’t actually know that Mamiya made 35mm rangefinders and so seeing this, I was intrigued.  Continue reading “Mamiya 35 Executive”

The Thirty Six: Film #21

I shot a roll of Fuji Pro 400 using a new camera acquisition in the form of the Mamiya 35 Executive; I’ll do a full review of the camera in a later post when I have shot another roll (or two) through it.
In the meantime this roll came out really good and I’m very happy with the results that this camera returned.

I shot some of the film on the streets around where I work just capturing scenes that I saw.

The Thirty Six: Film #14

I shot this roll of FujiPro 400 over a few weeks as I didn’t manage a full photo walk and shoot it in one go.  I used the Vitomatic II for this as my Prominent and Sensorex are both away for a service at the moment and it’s been a while since I used this one anyway (I was also inspired by a few recent posts and comments on 35mmc).

Still like this camera and it remains a favourite especially for travel as it is compact and self contained.

As a result there is a range of subject matter… Continue reading “The Thirty Six: Film #14”

The Thirty Six: Film #13

Roll 13 was another outing for the little Vito C which is now light-leak free.  Actually I loaded this roll of FujiFilm Fuji Pro 400 a few weeks ago and took a shot here and there which is how I am likely to use this camera going forward; just a camera to keep handy.

Can I still call myself a photographer?

Wow what crazy times these are –  times a few years ago I could never have foreseen.  It’s already November and I am not really sure what happened to October at all.

It’s all been happening for me here… Continue reading “Can I still call myself a photographer?”

June was Pink

The next edition of my series on colours for 2018 which picks a feature colour for each month of the year; June was Pink.

Change

It’s time for a change.

(apologies if this is another potentially self-centered rant).

For a while now I have felt like change is coming.  I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what this ‘change’ was but it has felt like it had to happen.  I have reached a plateau with my photography (and this blog) and that I need to do something different.

I am two years into this blog now and so perhaps now is a good time anyway to review and think about what I want this to be in the future.  I’ve not become the internet sensation that I wasn’t expecting to be, so what do I want?  How much effort do I want to devote to this site?

I am reading more and more about photography; as it is now and in the past, also art in general and I can feel something brewing inside me.  It’s okay I don’t think any alien species is about to erupt from my (slightly large) belly or anything noxious is going to be expelled from my digestive system.  I am thinking about all sorts of things right now and it’s all bunched up in front of me, blocking me until I’ve got through it all.  I need some sort of Zen moment to get past it or an epiphany or something.  Right now though I can barely pick up a camera, let alone shoot a roll of film creatively. I’m thinking of going ‘mirrorless’

Is it time for me to switch?  I’ve been casually thinking about the idea for a while and now I am looking at specific cameras. Continue reading “I’m thinking of going ‘mirrorless’”

35mm Film Shootist

Hi I'm Martin Smith, a amateur photographer that likes to shoot solely film. I use black & white with the odd colour image thrown in and mainly use a Leica M4-2 with Summicron 35mm and 50mm lenses. I tend to shoot anything I like, objects, scenes, landscape or street life.
