Themes: Cars (and how to shoot them) Part 2

Interceptor

As part of my retrospective look at the photographic themes I have shot as a process I am doing to try to figure out in my head what I like shooting these days I last week posted part one of this pair of posts about cars;  here.

Part Two is about stationary cars or cars on display;

Having been an owner of a few classic cars in my time I have spent many a Sunday afternoon walking about fields looking at shiny cars. I was never big on the whole polishing and detailing thing (I’d rather drive) but I do appreciate that a polished car makes a nice photograph. I will focus here on mostly  classic cars but these thoughts apply equally to modern cars. Continue reading “Themes: Cars (and how to shoot them) Part 2”

Themes: Cars (and how to shoot them) Part 1

As I look back through my archive at my common themes I find a lot of images of cars.  Cars in fields, in streets, racing, in pieces, close-up etc etc.

I have mentioned before I have an liking for cars you can read about my history with them and my thinking somewhat here so I won’t go into it again.  I think my love affair  with cars is, for now, well let’s just say we are taking a break.

Instead then (rather than repeating myself) for this post, I thought maybe I should talk about how I take pictures of cars rather than the why and whatnot.

Let’s break this up into two categories; racing cars and concourse/display. Continue reading “Themes: Cars (and how to shoot them) Part 1”

Still here

Not sure but I think this old car is waiting to be rescued or at least for some attention.  Spotted it hiding in the trees in Joshua Tree

I quite like this angle for this car, it looks like it is waiting to retake the road.  Entering this for Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge

Cadillac Fleetwood

Fleetwood

I must further apologise for my lack in posting; travel always gets in the way; I should be back to regular posting again now.

Found this old Cadillac from the 50s recently in my storage facility.  Looks to be in good (nice unrestored) condition and was ready to roll with picnic baskets in the back.

Spotted these on a walk the other night;  old Mercedes dozing in a lot.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What are you looking at?

Experimented with an old Russian Industar f2.8/28mm lens on my Pen-F.  Not very  successful as the focussing seems to be off; there’s vignetting too.  Here’s one of the better ones.

I think I need to play with it a little.

Let’s talk about cars… no no come back!

Don’t run away.   I don’t think it’s that kind of post.  There are only a few reactions you get when you mention cars; for those not interested you either get a checking out of your teeth to see if there are any genetic anomalies or there is a slight smile from the suspicion of compensating.  Those who are car fans immediately want to talk about numbers; how big, powerful and all other kinds of statistics or want to talk about the latest models and I’m afraid I often struggle to elaborate as I’m not the kind of fan that gets into the specs.   Continue reading “Let’s talk about cars… no no come back!”

Le Mans Classic

You may be aware of the Le Mans 24 hour race which is held at the La Sarthe circuit near Le Mans in France which is held every year and is a real test of motoring endurance.  Every two years however they also hold Le Mans Classic which brings back cars from every era over the last 95 or so years. 35mm Film Shootist

Hi I'm Martin Smith, a amateur photographer that likes to shoot solely film. I use black & white with the odd colour image thrown in and mainly use a Leica M4-2 with Summicron 35mm and 50mm lenses. I tend to shoot anything I like, objects, scenes, landscape or street life.
