Moonlight Forest at the LA Arboretum

This weekend we went out on a surprisingly cold evening to see the lantern display at the LA Arboretum.  I took my Olympus Pen-f digital fitted with the 7artisans 25mm lens.  (These images are resized for web JPEGs straight out of the camera as I am without photo editing capability this week)

The Theme building at LAX

I had a few minutes to spare on my way to the UK on a recent trip and couldn’t resist braving the heat outside and get a few pictures of the Theme building which is situated at the centre of the LAX airport complex.

This is an iconic building and classic mid-century ‘googie’ design; I’d love to get inside someday.

Union Station, Los Angeles

I’ve visited this station just off of downtown LA a few times and I love it features.  It was built in the 1930s and is a mix of Art Deco, Mission Revival, and Streamline Moderne styles.

For this visit I happened to be meeting a friend coming into town and decided it would do no harm to arrive a little early and see what shots i could find; as it was her train was delayed and I had a couple hours to wander around. Continue reading “Union Station, Los Angeles”

Stepping out

Over the last few years I have enjoyed writing this blog and also posting my photos online, it feels good to share my thoughts and work. But all too easily one can get used to this kind of life with everything online and, apart from going out to take photos, not really mixing in the real world.

Even the going out and shooting for me for the most part is a solitary exercise. Of course I go on trips and visits with my Fiancee and I take photos, but even then it’s usually me taking my pictures and other times it is just me doing a photo walk.

So recently I have been actively seeking out opportunities to meet and spend time with other photographers; real in the flesh people – I know, shocking. Continue reading “Stepping out”

7artisans 25mm 1.8 lens on my Pen-f digital

I’m not really one for product reviews other than trying to document my own collection of old cameras but I got this lens recently and I am impressed.

7artisans appeared on my horizon only very recently and I have to admit I was almost completely ignorant of them, I guess because I don’t really follow the latest equipment publications and reviews.  I don’t know why but I was browsing B&H and saw this lens, thought “oh that’s that manufacture I have seen recently” then I saw the price;   Continue reading “7artisans 25mm 1.8 lens on my Pen-f digital”

35mm Film Shootist

Hi I'm Martin Smith, a amateur photographer that likes to shoot solely film. I use black & white with the odd colour image thrown in and mainly use a Leica M4-2 & M3 with Summicron 35mm and 50mm lenses. I tend to shoot anything I like, objects, scenes, landscape or street life. My film of choice now is Fomapan 100 Classic.
